Collaborative success at Etihad Stadium

The Mancunian and Chairman’s VIP suites refurbishment programme at MCFC required exceptional quality workmanship, a high level of customisation and it had to be delivered within a very short timescale. The designers specified furniture materials which didn’t meet the Club’s local procurement policy, so suitability (and equal quality) alternatives were sourced. Freemont took the lead, applying our intelligent local procurement model and tools to deliver the feature seating booths, a unique circular bar, fret panelling and executive furniture package.
Freemont Director Noel Ruane said, “Our challenge was to ensure that our local manufacturers and suppliers could deliver the quality and design, designers 20:20 were striving for and satisfy MCFC’s local procurement policy. Working in local supply chain clusters through real collaboration is how we operate – it’s our procurement model for sustainable construction. We’ve been able to demonstrate real cost and environmental savings. Over 80% of our suppliers were based within a 40 mile radius of the Etihad, and over 90% were UK based. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our client, who were as driven to deliver a more sustainable project as we were.”
Ed Dalton, Senior Project Manager, MCFC commented, “Freemont did a superb job of managing the procurement and design development ‘sampling’ process leading to the successful delivery of the project.”
